Tamar Wetlands
Just 10 minutes drive from the heart of Launceston in the Tamar River Conservation Area is the Tamar Island walk. A 1.5 hour return easy walk along a boardwalk amounts rushes and water. For company you’ll have pelicans, swans, cormorants and numerous other bird species as well as frogs, dragonflies and lizards.
Liffey Falls
Liffey Falls is everything you want in a waterfall. The wide breadth of water cascades down several steps to create many little falls that look to be one. The water pools and then filters through a debris field of boulders before dropping down another small cascade that’s even wider. Get low to take a picture from the proper angle to catch the entirety of the falls in all of its glory.
Ben Lomond National Park
The magnificent mountain of Ben Lomond is dominated by an alpine plateau over 1500 metres high and surrounded on all sides by precipitous escarpments. Being able to drive to the plateau, visitors can readily enjoy striking mountain-top features such as dolerite columns and scree slopes. The vegetation of Ben Lomond is different to other parts of Tasmania and in the summer months, the alpine wildflowers are a delight.
